Results: 2016 Scottish Athletics U15 U20 Indoor Championships

Emirates Arena, Glasgow, 6 March 2016.

Congratulations to all medallists at the Scottish Athletics Under 15 & Under 20 Indoor Championships held today in Glasgow:

U20 Women:
1. Shona Ross (Kilbarchan) 11.33m (PB)
2. Anna Forbes (Whitemoss) 11.20m (PB)
3. Alexandra Burns (Helensburgh) 11.10m
4. Hazel Shanley (Livingston) 10.94m; 5. Abbie McKay (Stornoway) 10.42m; 6. Heather MacKinnon (South Uist & Eriskay) 10.20m (PB); 7. Tarryn Wood (Team East Lothian) 10.02m (PB); 8. Megan Roberts (Perth Strath) 10.02m; 9. Annabel McKay (Stornoway) 9.44m; 10. Mairi Macintosh (North Uist) 8.65m.

Shona improved on her previous PB of 11.07m by 2 cm in round 1 before bounding out to 11.33m with her following effort in a closley fought contest. Behind Shona, Anna improved her previous legal best by an impressive 45 cm by jumping out to 11.20m in round 2, while Alexandra sealed bonze in the 5th round just 5 cm down on her PB.

U15 Girls:
1. Ellie O’Hara (Edinburgh) 10.76m (PB) (CR) Scottish Age Group Record
2. Cara Fairgrieve (Glasgow School of Sport) 9.70m (PB)
3. Neve McGuire (Glasgow School of Sport) 9.52m (PB)
4. Grace Thompson (VP-Glasgow) 9.47m (PB); 5. Jodie Warren (Cumbernauld) 9.09m; 6. Jodie Robertson (Mid Argyle) 9.01m.

13 year-old Ellie set a new Scottish Record and bettered the previous Championship Record by 1 metre 23 cm and set 3 PBs in a competition she dominated, despite a first round foul. Cara took silver as she bettered her PB by 55 cm, and set a new Championship Record with 9.70m in round 1 before Ellie’s first 10+ metre jump. In 3rd place Neve improved her PB by 56 cm to pip Grace’s last round effort by just 5 cm.

U20 Men:
1. Aidan Quinn (Glasgow School of Sport) 13.82m
2. Henry Clarkson (Lasswade) 13.79m (PB)
3. Ed Barbour (Amber Valley) 13.67m (PB)
4. David Wilson (VP-Glasgow) 13.25m (PB); 5. Cameron Wilson (Central) 12.86m (PB); 6. Findlay Donegan (Elgin) 12.79m (PB); 7. Martin Brown (Banchory Sto) 12.08m; 8. Patrick Leydon (Mullingar) 11.84m; 9. Donald MacMillan (North Uist) 10.82m.

Not content with just the Scottish U17 title he won in January, 16 year-old Aidan took the U20 title by just 3 cm from Henry who improved his PB by 13 cm and produced 5 jumps in excess of 13.60m. In taking bronze, Ed was just 15 cm shy of Aidan but had the consolation of improving his previous PB by 18 cm during the competition.

U15 Boys:
1. Miraji Ahmed (Glasgow School of Sport) 12.35m (PB) (CR)
2. Calum Hopkins (East Kilbride) 10.82m
3. Ben Knowles (Pitreavie) 9.44m

Miraji dominated proceedings and added 1 metre 28 cm to the previous Championship Record, as well as setting 3 PBs during the competition to end up over a metre better than his pre-competition best.
