Reigning World and Olympic Champion Christian Taylor makes his 2016 debut in this weekend’s Chris Brown Invitational in Nassau, Bahamas. With Rio still 4 months away Taylor is unlikely to be any where near challenging his PB of 18.21m from Beijing last summer, but his early season form may give an indication of whether or not he is likely to threaten the 18 metre mark again this season, or Jonathan Edwards 21 year-old World Record of 18.29m, as he looks to retain his Olympic title.
Also competing in Nassau will be local favourite Leevan Sands, as he aims to complete an incredible return to Olympic competition in Rio, later this summer, following the horrendous knee injury he suffered in the 4th round of the London Games of 2012, where he finished 5th. Sands opened up his 2016 campaign last week in Auburn, USA, with 16.36m off a shortened approach and will hope to threaten the 17 metre mark this weekend.
British Indoor Champion Nathan Fox jumps alongside fellow countryman Nonso Okolo, British-based Daniel Lewis (Jamaica) and Tosin Oke (Nigeria), fresh from his 6th place at last month’s World Indoor Championships in Portland. Dutch jumper Fabian Florant and American Troy Doris complete the field.
You can follow the action from the Nassau meeting on the live stream with the Triple Jump due to start at 1.30 am BST on Sunday 17 April.
