Beijing, China, 18 May 2016.

China’s World Indoor Champion, Bin Dong, leapt to the top of the outdoor World Rankings for 2016 with 17.24m while taking victory in Beijing today. He took only 2 attempts in the competition, continuing the conservative approach to competitive jumps he took at the Diamond League Meeting in Doha, with one eye on his appearance at Eugene on May 28th where he takes on a stellar field including Christian Taylor and Will Claye.

Behind Dong, his fellow countryman Shuo Cao leapt 16.98m, beyond the Rio qualifying mark of 16.85m, to take 2nd place ahead of Cuban Alexis Copello’s 16.93m. Following a minor injury at the Drakes Relays last month, Chris Carter returned to competition with 16.87m in 4th as he continues his campaign to jump into form in time to secure one of the tightly contested places in the American Olympic Team at their trials in July.
