At the Meeting des Volcans in Aubière, Clermont-Ferrand, France, on January 7th 2017, Melvin Raffin set a new French Junior Indoor Record with of 17.04m breaking Teddy Tamgho’s 2008 mark of 16.94m. Raffin, born August 9th 1998, came 3rd at last year’s World Junior Championships and had a previous PB of 16.47m set in Nice last June (though he did record 16.93w (+2.8m/s) in Chateauroux, France in July 2016).
The current World Junior Record belongs to Volker Mai of East Germany, 17.14m set while taking bronze in the 1985 European Indoor Chamionships in Piraeus, Greece.
