Lee Valley, 8 January 2017.

Both U17 victors at the South of England Championships at Lee Valley on Sunday set massive new PBs.

In the U17 Women’s competition Jazz Sears of Luton AC added 83cm to her previous best of 11.02m, set while taking victory at the 2016 England Athletics U15 Championships, as she reached out to an impressive 11.85m. Jazz’s mark is just 16cm shy of Emily Parker’s British U17 Indoor Record from 2001, which must now be under serious threat as Jazz has only just entered this age category. In 2nd place, Eloise Harvey of Dartford AC improved her previous best by 14cm with 11.54m, with Thurrock AC’s Kendrea Nwaelene taking bronze by just 1cm ahead of Karina Harris of Blackheath & Bromley AC with 11.16m.

Josh Woods of Dacorum & Tring AC dominated the U17 Men’s event, leaping 13.06m, an improvement of 1.18m on his previous PB set last September, to take gold by over a metre. Joshua Gbagbo of Blackheath & Bromley AC took silver with 11.89m, just 6cm off his lifetime best, while Louis Goffin of Brighton & Hove AC claimed bronze with a new PB of 11.66m.
